Holga Putt

Ok, this is a dangerous post. Firstly the original of this image is rubbish, boring, recycle bin material. But just earlier I was looking through some other photoblogs and got interested (as usual) in some Holga / Lomo photos that people had taken. If you have no idea what these are, I suggest you look here. So in the spirit of the carefree style these cameras encourage, I thought I'd try and quickly 'shop one of my images to make it look as if it was taken on a cheap plastic lens Chinese camera. Any more than 10 minutes spent in Photoshop seemed like missing the whole point, so I rushed it on purpose.

Here's where the danger comes in, fans of the cameras will probably curse me forever as it probably looks nothing like a Holga image in their mind. Danger #2 comes into play when non-fans visit the site and are greeted with this pic and they move straight on because they just think it looks like a rubbish out of focus mess.

Anyway, less talk, more photos - enjoy.

Edit >> In true east3rd style, I've decided to post an alternate version of this pic. I've sepia toned it, and removed some of the vignette where it was perhaps a bit too even. Tell me what you think.

I don't normally take pictures of flowers or their petals, they are much too common in online galleries and few really stand out to my eye. This is hardly a masterpiece, but since I bought my girlfriend some flowers I thought I should attempt a shot.

This is the first time I've actually added noise to a picture, hope you like it. Oh, and it's nice to have an internet connection again!

This picture was, if I'm honest about it; a good idea badly executed. I was in a bit of a rush, so I would have preferred to expose the sign more, but it was tricky without letting the background highlights blow out. Plus as some of you will no doubt tell, I've had to blur the background in Photoshop as even at f/3; the S7000 does it's best to keep the whole shot in focus.

On other news, I am starting a secondment at work which involves me staying a few hundred miles away from home during the week. Great for my photography - I'll be bored in the evenings so the camera will get a lot of use, but sadly I won't be able update this blog till the weekend :\ I'll be able to borrow a laptop in a couple of weeks so everything should be ok then.

This is a pic of my Dad's old combine harvester, it's ancient but still works just fine.

I took this whilst away with work and staying in Toulouse, France. It's a little restaurant in a back street somewhere, I don't speak French but the others with me translated it's name to 'Spoil the Children'. I didn't intend to catch the waiter in this, but I think it turned out quite well.

I had wondered how long I could last before adding extra info to each of the posts! Anyway, this is a road in Bristol, in the area known commonly as 'Clifton Village'. One of the nicest, expensive and exclusive areas of the city. If you think ths architechture is good, click here to see the Royal Cresent in Bath. A place close to here that I plan on visiting soon...
