The Stare

Camera: Canon 20D
Lens: EF 70-200 f/4L @ 200mm (320mm equiv)
Exposure: 1/800 sec at f/11, ISO 400

This is one of a few shots I'll post after I went to the National Birds of Prey Centre.

Whilst I was there I met another keen photographer and very nice lady called Linda Wright. You have a look at her shots from the centre over here, I'd recommend it.

You're right owen, there is a bit of noise there. But given the circumstances I think it's ok. I was trying to capture the birds with as little 'bad' blurring as possible, but not totally freezing them in shot (and trying to maintain highlights!). So therefore I underexposed for the shots with full sky background and then pushed it 1.25 stops in ACR. Given the lighting and dark feathers it's dificult to avoid noise in the shadow areas. But I think the 20D copes very well.

I would say just go for it to be honest, there is noise but once images are printed they are great. It's only when a shot is really examined that it starts becoming an issue. Compared to my old Fuji S7K it's silky smooth...!

If you want any other help, image samples etc then just give me a shout by email.

Oh, and this crop is probably about 2/3rds the size of the original.
